An Interesting Move

Straight out of Jersey, and a great idea
Three people with a healthy obsession for cellphones; that’s all it took to start Rentobile, a young company that rents popular handsets to U.S. consumers who want a shiny new device, but are stuck in the middle of a lengthy contract.

Two years was much too long for Seungcheol Lee, one of Rentobile’s partners, to wait to get his hands on a different handset. Lee and Rentobile’s two other partners, all of whom all spring from design and graphics backgrounds, decided to take their love of the latest technology and turn it into a business plan. The company is not a mobile operator; it doesn’t offer service plans, usage charges, etc.
Hell of an idea. Lets hope they keep expanding.

Greatest Photo of the Year?

Probably not. But hilarious nonetheless.

To Jim

So, we lost that $100 gift card (which really sucked and makes me wonder if a certain someone came by and snatched it), then there was the time the cable was down for about five days and the repair guys kept flaking out. Oh, and there was when we first moved into the house and moved the cable/router too close to the TV and no one could connect to the internet or have a decent speed when they did (yes Jim, you were right and we should have moved it away from the TV). But I'm completely glad the 105A house never signed up with Time Warner Cable.

Why?

well 12:01AM, January 1st might be seeing a huge change in TV programing.

SpongeBob SquarePants might get squeezed off Time Warner Cable.

Media giant Viacom Inc said its Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and 16 other channels will go dark for 13 million subscribers at 12:01 a.m. Thursday if a new carriage fee deal with Time Warner Cable Inc is not agreed upon by then.

The impasse would mean "SpongeBob" and other popular shows like Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" and Stephen Colbert's "The Colbert Report" will be cut off on the nation's second-largest cable operator. Time Warner Cable primarily serves people in New York state, the Carolinas, Ohio, Southern California and Texas [emphasis added].
So as this year comes to a close, lets be happy we got AT&T and not the Nazi-esque Time Warner Cable.

Editor's Note: Yes, I'm aware that Time Warner is not available in Houston, but rather Comcast is. Shut up.

To AAR

Since you're an admitted reader and also a new, but enthusiastic fan of the Wire (one of the greatest shows ever), I'm posting this for you.

Alan Sepinwall is a writer from New Jersey (don't hate him because of that). I'm pretty sure he maintained weekly posts on the show which contained some of the most insightful material and thoughts. It's almost an episode guide of sorts since so much happens in one episode. Check it out and try not to read ahead (it's hard not to).

Top Gun

Where are they now.

Worth a look and interesting to see. Kelly McGinnis did not age well.

Generally Speaking

Not much going on these days. Enjoying the life back home. Seen a few friends. Spent some real quality time with the parents.

Generally speaking, what's been going on?

Mp3 player is still down. I anticipate I will be (reluctantly) rejoining the ipod gang. Digital camera is also not functioning. I anticipate I will be buying a refurb from ecost.com. It was time. Weird that the stuff I bought while in undergrad in Massachusetts decided to crap out around the same time.

What else has been going on?

Discovering old music that's laying around my room that I have kind of forgotten about over time.

I'm in the process of uploading a bunch of it right now. Travel light with some mp3s.

Also, I recently purchased the entire box set of the Wire. Stoked. I've watched it 2 or 3 times through now. Presently viewing season 3.

In other news, I've become extremely nocturnal.

News From All Over

Merry Christmas everyone (if it's Christmas and you're reading this)

Santa being tracked by Norad
As of now (11:06 PM) he hasn't made it to Houston, or anywhere in California. He has, however, made it to Hartford, Connecticut, which is close enough to Amherst. More reasons I'm mad at Massachusetts (not really).

Bush is an Indian-Giver
But with good reason. He took back a pardon. Why? Because of the appearance of impropriety. It basically looks like his dad bought the pardon. And I applaud the decision by Bush. But man, it would suck to be Isaac Toussie. "Mr. Toussie, you've been pardoned." "WOHOOOO." [Twenty four hours later] "Yeah, Mr. Toussie, we need to talk....."

Dwayne Wade is AWESOME
He bought a woman a house after her old one burned down. Good story and it's awesome that it's getting main-stream media play. Enough said? I think so.

D-Bag Bankrupted Charity
I know it's hard to read about people losing money, but it's even worse when charities get bilked. Especially by douchebags like Bernard Madoff. And I hate how they call him the 'Wall Street Baron." Call him what he is. The Wall Street Douchebag.

More Zod

He rocks fresh gear like a blue polo shirt. He is an American Bulldog and will likely get a lot bigger.

A $10,000 Snow Angel

I hate the Patriots. Well mostly Tom "Dreamboat" Brady, Captain Douchebag Bill Belichick (side-note, check out Bill's Wikiality article, funny stuff), and their jackass fans that exist in New England and perpetually use the words "Dynasty", add "R" where "R" doesn't belong and turn words that end in "R" in to an "ahhh" sound. But I digress. Despite my disdain for the Patriots, I keep up with sports. And I also understand when douchebaggery occurs. Wes Welker caught a TD this past weekend during the snowbowl, aka The Patriots vs. The Cardinals. Then he made a snow angel. Pretty awesome stuff.

Well, come to find out today he was fined $10,000 for this "celebration." Look, I hate the Patriots, but come on. That was a pretty awesome celebration. In conclusion, I still hate the Patriots and Roger Goddell is a douchebag / dictator.

ESPN: Suckage Continues

Lets get this straight, I still watch ESPN, but I have witnessed its decline over the years.

This happened last night.

Wow. Lebron James blocked Yao Ming. And guess what? It made Sportscenter's top 10 plays at #2.

But mind you, Lebron's NBA player profile lists him at 6'8". Yao Ming's player profile puts him at 7'6". So, if all things were equal, Lebron would have to jump 10" higher if both players had an equal vertical (they do not). Yao jumps about 6" off the ground. Lebron likely has a vertical somewhere between 30-40" (just guessing).

But wait, do you remember this???

NATE ROBINSON BLOCKED YAO! Yes. Little Nate the Great blocked Yao Ming. Nate's NBA player profile lists him at 5'9". Yes. FIVE-FOOT-NINE INCHES. So that means, all things being equal, Nate had to jump TWENTY-ONE INCHES higher than Yao in order to block them (again, they clearly don't have an equal vertical). ESPN sucks. And everyone needs to stop jocking Lebron. Many have blocked Yao. It's not a big deal when a 6'8" dude does it. It is a big deal when a 5'9" dude does it.

Zod: Ruler of Sleep

My friend Gary has a new puppy. He calls him Zod, which is apparently the villain in Superman 2. He likes to sleep in the cage.

Why I Wouldn't Want a Kings Calendar for Christmas

Because in 2009, i expect a new-look team (meaning trades, trades, and more trades). So no thanks S-mart Foods. I'll keep my walls blank in 2009.

Time to count that change in the couch cushions. T-Mac's Benz is for sale on Ebay

So I say we pool our money and go halfs on this bad boy (I use the term "halfs" loosely as I will be counting on you to fund the majority of this venture).

Reasons why we should get this car

1) Baby Blue Benz?! Holla
2) Custom = expensive
3) T-Mac

Reasons why we shouldn't get this car

1) Baby Blue Benz...really
2) Custom = not really that great
3) T-Mac. It might result in chronic injuries.

Another Reason It Sucks Coming Home

I sign my own death certificate basically everytime I step foot in this city. Something in the air (my sis thinks it's mold) gets in my respiratory system and puts me near death. It happens annually. So that's a major downside to coming home since coming home will generally involve me laying in bed coughing, sneezing, and blowing my nose for days on end. And it also makes me relatively anti-social as well. Not good times. Not at all.

Making a Comeback (that I don't care about)

I was at a coffee shop the other day, when low-and-behold, they started playing Hootie and the Blowfish's "I Only Wanna Be With You"

Immediately, my gchat status messaged changed, making fun of the coffee shop and Hootie and the Blowfish. Apparently, people still like Hootie, because I got a ton of messages from people voicing their support for Hootie and asking me why I didnt like them. I guess I didn't like them because they were crappy adult contemporary music 14 years ago (in my humble opinion) and the song never got any better to me. Not much for the hype train, so I just wasn't feeling it back then, nor am I feeling it now.

So this post is for you, the people. Hootie's making a comeback next year. Of course since I don't care much about them, you can read the article yourself, while I go back to laying in bed and devising the next post.

Yeah, Why Aren't Asians Hooping More

The San Francisco Chronicle has a good write up on Asian Americans and basketball.

The article starts off with Jeremy Lin, the starting Point Guard for Harvard's basketball team. Also included: the status of Asian Americans coaching, and underlying factors as to why there might not be statistical changes in the near future.

Good read.

Basketball > Bowling

Well, obviously, right? If you've hung out with me for a prolonged period of time, you know I love bowling. Not competitively. But there's nothing like having beers and throwing the ball at a bunch of pins. Some of my fondest memories from home were bowling with Sly, Moose, and Chad on our old team. Yeah, it was basically Chad and Sly killing it, while Moose and I were the epitome of inconsistency. But it was a blast.

However, if you read this blog, you know my true love is basketball. I read the blogs daily (even in the offseason). I keep up with news, stats, etc. basically daily. And I love to play pickup games in Houston when given the chance (no, I'm not very good, but it doesn't stop me).

There were rumors floating on the campaign trail that if Obama was elected, he was putting in an indoor basketball court. He wasn't lying.

But not everyone shares my excitement.
The bowling lobby is concerned that talk of removing the White House lane -- which was built under the north driveway -- will have a negative impact on their sport. In an effort to change the president's mind, top bowling associations have offered to refurbish the lane with a state-of-the-art scoring system, high-tech bowling balls designed to grip the lane and a digital surround-sound system.
However, Obama's cabinet is littered with individuals who have ties to basketball (mostly at the collegiate level or lower). And Obama loves playing games, particularly before major events.

Mr. Obama typically spends some time on the basketball court ahead of big events, including elections. He is expected to play a game of three-on-three with his Hyde Park friends before delivering his Inaugural Address Jan. 20.

So I say, don't listen to the lobbyists sir, put in the court. Cause basketball reigns supreme.

RIP to One of the Greats

Mike Kahn passed away this week.

Kahn was one of the main contributors on foxsports. I truly enjoyed his writings on the NBA. I have always chosen foxsports over espn.com. Why? Because ESPN often requires you to have the "insider" pass. I'm sorry, but in this day and age, I'm not paying extra money to read information that a million other web sites are likely covering (and often covering better). Alas, I digress.

Kahn's writings will be thoroughly missed as will his presence in the sports community.

Mike Kahn was my professional brother. We spent more quality time together than many family members. We were soulmates in a great profession. Readers will miss his insight and opinion. I miss one of my closest friends.

John Clayton from ESPN. And even better, an excellent tribute from an editor at foxsports here.
Thanks for being a fiercely loyal, tireless boss, and thanks for being cool about it when our roles were reversed and you wound up working for me. And thanks for bringing that same passion and enthusiasm to your writing on the NBA for FOXSports.com.

Now I'll thank you to get back to work. Pick a topic — Kobe and the Lakers, LeBron's future, how the Knicks are still up the creek — and start writing. Don't make me come after you. Not yet, anyway.

Mike's love of the game always showed through his writing. Your contributions will be sorely missed. It's amazing to think how much journalists can impact us. For now, rest in peace.

Feeling Thankful

Here I am, on vacation, and I feel overwhelmingly thankful that I escaped the confines of this city I used to call home. I love seeing my family. I love seeing my friends, but the problem? A guy is sitting outside of this coffee shop bumping this

just like it's going out of style. Please note, it's not. It's not in danger of going out of style. Why? Cause it's been about 15 years since it was in style.

2 Years of Law School in Parking

I attempt to avoid parking tickets like the plague. Don't need a boot, don't need to take away money that I don't have. But alas, others aren't like me (nor do I expect them to be). The haste of the world we live in often chooses urgency over practicality.

But then there are those who somehow manage to outdo the average individual.

Alexander Kamish managed to rack up approximately $81,000 in parking tickets (count the zeros). Yes, in law school money, that's two years (where I'm from. But try schools like New York Law, or Santa Clara, where a year costs about $45,000 just in tuition - not even counting cost of living, which basically will double that number). Mr. Kamish is the #1 offender in the NYC. #2? He's way off, owing only $66,000 in tickets.

How did Kamish do it? 415 parking tickets in 4 years. Yes, nearly 104 parking tickets per year. I would crap my pants and cry if that happened to me.

Naturall, Mr. Kamish denies any wrongdoing.

"Basically, someone registered [the offending] vehicles under my name," Khamish said.

"I knew about this a couple years ago, but I didn't know it [involved an] $80,000 [debt].

"Someone did register vehicles under my name before I found out, but I was going back and forth with the DMV, and from the last I heard, I thought everything was OK."

That's the equivalent of saying "my dog ate my homework." Wait, scratch that. It's like saying, "I turned in my homework, but I think someone else stole it. I told the principal, and last I heard, I got an 'A' on the assignment."

Brilliant.

It's All Gonna Break

It's a Broken Social Scene song. But it feels extremely relevant right now.

5 straight weeks in the library. It's boiling over. Stress. I'd like to pull my hair out right now. I'm tired of the library. I'm tired of eating out. I'm tired of not having fun. I'm tired of the music on my computer. I'm tired of the same daily grind. I'm tired.

I Once Saw Gary Patyon In a Club

He was a douche.

I was out with my friend Lina in Sacramento. I can't remember what the occasion was. But we went to the K-Bar. It was kind of mellow, more of a lounge-esque environment. I was sippin on my Gin and Tonic (geez....how far away from that drink am I now?) and low and behold Lina's friend waltzes back saying "Gary Payton is here."

Payton was playing with the Fakeshow at the time and they were in town to play the Kings. All things being equal, Gary was still a hell of a player so I wandered over to say "what's up."

But then two members of his little entourage showed up. I yelled past them "Gary Payton, what's up!?"

To which I heard the response from entourage member #1 "Gary's not tryna see no one right now."

Okay. And then Gary just looked at me like I was retarded (which is an accurate depiction of me, but still, I don't need to be reminded of that). I shrugged it off and wandered back to Lina.

Moral of the story: Gary Payton = Douchebag.

Fun fact: My friend Malcolm once sold GP furniture when he was working in Pleasanton at Levitz. Apparently he was really cool to Malcolm, who sold him about $20,000 worth of furniture.

Not Meshing? Try Arts N Crafts

For the last month or so, I've spent life around a small group of people. Day in and day out. There's bound to be some tension at times. I feel like it's natural when you're surrounded by the same people. You get annoying to them, they get annoying to you. They steal your moose, you steal their laptop. It's how the game is played. I've been long-contemplating strategies on how to get along better. Perhaps a group activity would make things better. Naturally, a night at the bar sounds like it would do us all some good. But alas, it might have adverse consequences on the function of some of us the next day (read: hangovers). So that strategy may not be so good for team building. But then today, Jim emailed a solution straight from the playbook of the Phoenix Suns.
...they looked like one of the league’s unhappiest teams, forever searching for their identity. The perimeter players wanted to run again. O’Neal wanted to keep getting touches. Stoudemire, who wasn’t sad to see D’Antoni go, started pining for his old coach’s offense. Suns owner Robert Sarver even took a page from one of his Corporate America handbooks and reportedly held a bonding session that had the players cutting out pictures and building collages.
Yes. "[C]utting out pictures and building collages." Imagine Shaq, STAT, Golden Boy Steve Nash, all sitting around, basically scrap-booking. The results are astonishing!

Did you see how they all came to the rescue of one another?! AMAZING. That's cause it's the NBA. And Amazing happens there. Or at least that's what those commercials keep telling me. You know, the ones with the piano music.

There it is. I mean, the old Suns team, they didn't like each other. They never would have come to the rescue of a fellow teammate. Oh wait...

And imagine the surprise when Jason Richardson gets there.

"you want me to do what with the team? We didn't do this crap with the Warriors or the Bobcats."

Well Mr. Richardson, while that would be a very accurate observation, that might also explain the losing that was going on with both organizations. And even if Richardson thinks it's weird, that won't stop Golden Boy Nash.

More than anything, the Suns had tired of losing to the Spurs, and Nash was smart enough to say Wednesday he’ll welcome Richardson and Dudley “with open arms.”
Read: ARTS N CRAFTS TIME! WOOOOOO. Break out the scissors!

But the write of the article has such a bleak perspective on the situation.
but doesn’t the party always end sometime?
Pfff...NO Johnny. Not when you're the Phoenix Suns. When you're the Suns, there's always a party.

In summation, arts n crafts makes for winners. Now where's my puff paint at?! I've got an exam tomorrow!

Why ESPN Sucks

Tim Legler and the other "NBA Fastbreak" guys were talking about Shaq's vintage performance the other night against Milwaukee . Then they were talking about whether or not Shaq would play on the next night against the Lakers. Typically, Terry Porter (the Suns' coach) rests Shaq on the second game of back-to-backs. Then Legler and the gang ripped Shaq and Porter, saying that he needs to start playing both games of back-to-backs. The thing is, I knew about his grandmother dying, so I was waiting for them to talk about it. But they never did. They just went on about Shaq saying he wasn't going to play last night.
The Suns played without Shaq (family funeral)
Thanks to dime for staying up on this stuff and talking about it before the Milwaukee game even happened. But what's more concerning? Well that a b-ball blog/magazine with obviously less resources keeps up more with the news than ESPN, which is the largest sports news network (this is no discredit to Dime. I love the work they do. Always amazing and geared completely towards the user. And there was the time they dropped subscriptions for 81 cents after Kobe dropped 81 on the Raptors). It's the fact that ESPN may very well have known about Shaq's grandmother dying and chose to ignore it. Or they just didn't know. Either way, that's pretty sad, considering they're supposed to have all of these insiders in the NBA. That's pretty big news to overlook.

Oh, then there was the Plaxico Burress shooting himself incident. ESPN was covering it, bringing you "breaking news" about the incident. But they were quick to tout their analysts out saying how bad it was for Plax to do this, and how he's got such a bad public image. They reported on his possible gun permit that he had, how it had expired, how there were problems with the hospital reporting on this, Antonio Pierce being subpeonaed, yada yada yada. What they didn't chose to bring up amongst their commentary? Oh maybe the part about teammate and fellow WR Steve Smith was robbed at gunpoint about a week before. Gee, I wonder why they were toting guns around. Oh, and where did this happen to Smith at?

Giants receiver Steve Smith was the victim of an armed robbery in front of his home on Monday, Nov. 25. But contrary to a published report, the alleged perpetrator is not Smith's driver.
No kidding? But when the story first broke on Plaxico, ESPN wasn't trying to put two and two together. That's what irks me. Report the whole story. And when you offer these commentaries on television, think logically.
Example:

Analyst 1: Well, Plaxico Burress shot himself. And he will likely be in serious trouble.

Studio Guy: Is there any indication of why he was carrying a gun that night?

Analyst 1: Good question Studio Guy. On November 25, his teammate, Steve Smith, was robbed at gun point outside of his home in New Jersey. One can expect that it was a motivating factor in why Plaxico had a gun with him.

Simple. It's not like Roger Fedderer was robbed in Switzerland at gun point while treking through the Alps. This was a teammate. On the other side of the river. Not hard to figure that one out guys. In conclusion. ESPN, not really that great at reporting.

Proof People Freak When It Snows

I returned to our study room to discover this little present. A snow man. Made outside, then transported indoors.

What?!

Check the location on that bad boy.

Yes. Houston. Yes. Snow. In Houston. Where it was 60-70 degrees yesterday.

The Snow stole my motivation to study like the Grinch Stole Christmas.

People were spazzing when it was flurrying. I laughed. Then I spazzed just like them.

Oh hypocrisy, how I embrace thee.

I'm Sorry Jackie

I shouldn't have thrown a pen at your head from the second story. You had every right to throw the pen in the garbage. In retrospect, a crumpled piece of paper would have worked better with less injurious results.

Although, as you recall, I helped move the couch into your apartment. That should at least count for something. Maybe couch-mover immunity?

Finally a Win Worth Discussing

The Kings beat the Lakers last night. 113-101. WHAT?! I was shocked too. Even going into the fourth quarter, I worried that Darth-Kobe would be taking over and dropping buckets. But no such luck (if you're a FAKERS fan). Why did I post a picture of Jenn from the Royal Court dancers? Well mainly cause, 1) I sat next to her parents at a game a few years back (which was in the top level strangely enough), 2) she's been with the team forever, and 3) she's hot.

Back to the matter at hand. Why is the win worth noting? Because the Kings are terrible "turrible." I frequently text my friend Ant about the status of the Kings.

Lately I've been advocating for the destruction of the team. Trade Miller while he's got some value. Find a player who is worth being traded and throw Kenny (k-9) Thomas in there (he's of no use to us). Finally, surround the present young core (Donte Green, Jason Thompson, Kevin Martin, and Francisco) with some talent. Instruct John Salmons that although his stat line looks amazing, he needs to learn how to play team ball. I don't care if he fills up the stat sheet, I care if he gets the team involved. Beno needs to learn some D, but overall I'm glad we have a decent PG. Bobby Jackson, I love you man, but you just ain't the player you used to be. But it's good to have a fan-favorite, and a vet.

Anyway, you know it's a bad season when you get text messages from your friend saying, ''Mallofs [are] closing in on reality tv show. It's title 'rebuilding the king-dom'" and "we need Kobe."

Regardless, the Kings handed the infamous Kobe and the seemingly-unstoppable Lakers the 'L' last night behind 21 from both Salmons and Garcia. Awesome. The ball movement was good and we even got some Sportscenter coverage. Dope.

Also, something of note worth posting. Via Sactownroyalty, which is hands down the best Kings blog out there, rules for Fakers fans attending King's games at Arco.
1. Do not scream "Brad Miller sucks!" during the National Anthem.

2. Chanting "defense" as a visiting fan in the minority isn't terribly useful.

3. If the game starts at 7PM, try to show up before 7:45. I don't want to have to help you understand that you're in the wrong row while Francisco Garcia is dribbling into the paint. It's not like you can blame the traffic.

4. No chanting "M.V.P." when your team is losing by 13 points with a minute left.

5. If your team loses, please do not begin hollering about championships or the standings. Your team lost. This is what we have just witnessed. We did not all show up to ARCO to discuss Lakers history. We're all aware of it, but we really really don't care after a Kings win.

Sactownroyalty, thanks for holding down all things Kings even when though it's been hard to watch. TZ and the gang are true fans and dope bloggers.

Oh, You Mean It's Not THAT Easy?

I've typically been disgusted by Oprah throughout the course of my life. I think she's very full of herself (that's an understatement). This isn't to say that Oprah doesn't do good things. In fact, I think she does some very, very good things, and often times serves as motivation and inspiration for a lot of people. But she is very quick to pat herself on the back for doing it. And it seems that she's more worried about her image at times than other things (even when her image wasn't really at issue).

For instance, there was infamous James Frey book, "A Million Little Pieces" that she had endorsed via her book club and a special show she dedicated to the book. Then it came out that Frey had made some of it up. Oprah being Oprah, brought Frey on the show to publicly chastise him. And it was less because of Frey making up a story and more for making Oprah look bad. Hey, way to choose the high-road Oprah. Yeah, it was Frey who made you look bad. Nevermind the fact that what he did was morally wrong. The world is all about you O (that's what I like to call her, cause she's so awesome and deserves a one-letter name - oh hey, it's just like her magazine! awesome! I'm creative). Then Frey and his publisher came out and said that Oprah basically conned him into coming onto the show.
As Talese recounted at a televised publishing conference last July, the show invited her and Frey together. Talese initially resisted. Then they were approached with a new pitch. The topic was going to be "Truth in America," and they wanted Talese on a panel with columnists Frank Rich, of The New York Times, and Richard Cohen, from The Washington Post. Given this scenario, Talese agreed. But when she and Frey arrived at Harpo Studios, in Chicago, they were told that the program was not, in fact, about Truth in America; it was about the James Frey controversy. Winfrey told Frey it would be rough, but said there would be redemption in the end. There was no redemption. From beginning to end, it was, according to Talese, "a public scourge."
Smooth O, smooth. Rip the dude for being immoral, but con him into coming on the show so, (a) you can kick him while he's down, and (b) bash him for tarnishing your precious little image. You can read the actual interview with Frey here. Now I'm not endorsing what Frey did. It was unethical and immoral to sell something labeled as non-fiction when he made some most of it up. He should have pulled a Hollywood and said "based on a true story." Works through the red-tape every time. It's like the time I told my friends the story about winning the lottery and blowing it all on black tar heroin. I told them it was based on a true story. It wasn't. In fact, I just made the whole thing up. But you see, I threw out a disclaimer. Back to O. I don't really recall anyone saying how much of a terrible person she was for endorsing the book. After all, she didn't write it. She could have just made a statement in the media that it was unfortunate what Frey did and that she was disappointed she endorsed the book. But instead, she brings him on the show and obliterates the guy on national TV and has the audience booing him all the while. O, it's not your place to publicly humiliate people. That doesn't make you a better person.

Anyway, my real beef lies with O's weight. I can remember her being pretty large back in the day. Then she hired a personal chef or something, lost weight, and said that anyone could do it. I think she forgot to disclaim her statement by saying, "if you've got millions of dollars and can hire a personal chef." Well now the weight is back and there are all kinds of stories floating around about O's struggles with her weight.

In 2005, Winfrey said she starved herself for four months to lose weight. Ever since, her weight has yo-yoed. She weighed as much as 237 pounds and by late 1990 acknowledged she had regained most of the 67 pounds, saying "I'll never diet again."

In 1993, she hired personal trainer Bob Greene and the next year finished the Marine Corps Marathon. By 1996 she said her roller-coaster weight saga was over.

Uhh, starving yourself? And this is the model image of what other people should do? O, is this a case of do as I say, not as I do? Cause I'm pretty sure you shouldn't endorse starving yourself. And how much exactly does O weigh right now? 200 lbs to be approximate. Here's the recount of her weight history.

Winfrey famously wheeled a wagon loaded with fat onto the set of her talk show in 1988 to represent a 67-pound weight loss while wearing a pair of size 10 Calvin Klein jeans. She had lost the weight with a liquid protein diet.

"When it comes to maintaining my health I didn't just fall off the wagon. I let the wagon fall on me," the chairwoman of Harpo Inc. writes. "I didn't follow my own fundamental rule of taking care of self first."

Look, I'm not ripping her for gaining weight. I struggle with eating right, exercising, and being healthy in general. And I know how hard it is. I put 5lbs on over the last two months from not being able to work out. It sucks. All the hard work, gone. But O, what pisses me off is that you try and make it sound so easy when it's not. That's what pisses me off. The holier-than-thou attitude; the "look how easy it is" persona is simple to pull off when you have millions of dollars. OH WAIT. EVEN YOU COULDN'T DO IT. You know why? Because it's difficult. It takes self control, and even when you hire the specialists and the dietitians and the personal trainers, you still fell off. And you let it go for TWO years. So stop trying to make it sound so easy for us common folk.

A Panda and a Puppy

As a founding member of the panda buddy system, I find myself getting entertaining emails. Also, as a person who likes dogs, I get pictures of dogs emailed to me on occasion. Apparently one panda went on a trek today with Jim to go get coffee. The panda returned with photos of a little chocolate Labrador. Unfortunately, this panda (me) was sleeping snoring underneath a desk in the library and couldn't immediately celebrate the photographic awesomeness of it all. But after hibernating, I awoke to some photos in my inbox. Enjoy

Big Ticket is Kind of a BIG JERK

Look at him, he's about to dunk on poor Glen "Big Baby" Davis' head. And that's his own teammate. What a jerk (yes, my lazy attempt at photoshopping a picture consisted of two searches, once cut, one paste, and a drag).

Actually, KG apparently yelled at the bench after they played an abysmally and blew the C's lead over the Trailblazers last night. The starters had to come back in and save the lowly bench.

Garnett had his own issues with Big Baby. After getting some tough love from KG when the C’s backups got worked over in the aforementioned Portland run, Baby had a meltdown on the bench and was literally crying and screaming at people …
I don't know what's worse: making your own teammate cry, or the fact that your own teammate cried. Said Garnett after the game:
We gotta stay together man....I'm trying to inspire the guys, make sure we stay together that's all
Yes, inspire them by making them cry. I know whenever I need inspiration, I ask my friends to yell at me and say hurtful thing. Only then, when the tears are shed, am I at my best. The problem always seems to be that I can't see anything through the tears.

The reporter went on to ask KG about what he'd say to Big Baby.

I'll probably get real deep with him, try to understand what he('s) going through right now.
Kevin, I'm not a detective, scientist or a psychologist; I'm just a lazy blogger. But I'm pretty sure you hurt the kid's feelings. Also, you caused him to cry on national TV, meaning you probably said something pretty jacked up. But then again, you're KG and you've turned into an arrogant jackass.

THE.BEST.MUSIC.VIDEO.EVER.

Journey,"Separate Ways." I command you to love it.

Office Space Bunnies

Dedicated to Julio, who wants to prank "Milton."

Water balloons ain't such a bad idea buddy.

Run Juice, RUN...

...straight to prison.

Ya' done SON.

OJ got 15 years today. And while it's not enough karmic retribution for alleged crimes of the past, it's something.

We're sitting in the library, laughing about what a retard OJ is. I mean, really, he dodged such a bullet back in the day. And then he got into trouble again. So in addition to the fifteen years, he should get kicked in the nuts, once a day, everyday for the length of his sentence for being a douchebag.

Thankfully, the transcript from the sentencing has been published.

Here's the highlights.

"I stand here today sorry, somewhat confused. I feel apologetic to people of state of Nevada."
Read: How do I not get immunity for being OJ? It worked last time....
OJ, you took a gun into a room and held a memorabilia collector up.
"I didn't want to steal anything from anybody,"
Ummm....your actions indicated otherwise. I think OJ's definition of "steal" is a little different than the one those of us with "morals" have.
"I just wanted my personal things. I was stupid. I'm sorry. I didn't know I was doing anything illegal. I thought I was confronting friends. I thought I was retrieving my things. I didn't mean to hurt anybody and I didn't mean to steal anything"
READ: I confront people I like with weapons all of the time. That's how I confronted....oh, wait. Stupid OJ, stupid, stop revealing the truth...
Really? Confronting friends. With a gun?

Thankfully, the Judge stepped in to correct OJ on where he was a bit retarded misguided in his remorse.

"Everything in this case was on tape...And its your own words, Mr. Simpson, you own words ... that that brought you here to this seat in my courtroom. The evidence in this case was overwhelming...You went to the room. You took guns. You used force. You took property, and in this state, that amounts to robbery with the use of a deadly weapon."

This further solidifies the notion that OJ has no conscience, or recollection of reality.

Time to pay the piper Juice.

Things to Do While at the Gym

I can't go to the gym. Why? Cause I'm trapped in the library studying. But that doesn't mean I can't make myself feel better about it by watching people at the gym.

Hey Dumb Collectors, GET THIS

Yes, it's just a basketball.

What the hell?!

Yes, a Yao Ming Transformer. This has almost zero to do with basketball aside from Yao Ming being inside, and originally being shaped like a basketball.

Did you ever want to see your heroes being "transformed?"
What's next? A Hibachi - Gilbert Arenas transformer? "Hey Billy, look at that indiscreet hibachi grill sitting on the street." (mechanical noises) "Billy!!! that's not just a hibachi grill, it's Gilbert Arenas the transformer!" "Bobby, I think he's an Deceptacon, we should run!"

And what would a Shaq transformer look like? Maybe a Big Sceptic Tank....or a Big Diesel truck (screams unoriginal), or a Big Cactus. Or just Grimace.

Colbert vs. Kanye

Wallarsky and Malloy

See more funny videos at Funny or Die

Kanye West

I didn't really know how to feel about 808's and Hearbreak, especially considering I hate the Auto-Tune movement (see Akon, T-Pain, Lil Wayne + T-Pain = T Wayne, that song that Snoop Dogg did, that was funny but kind of got old fast).

I heard a few of the songs a while back, both the first and second version of Heartless, and a few others.

Then I got the album. And I was still confused.

And then Kanye came out with the "I'm the voice of this generation" comment.

Stephen Colbert said it best the other day
"With all the auto-tuning on your records, you're barely the voice of your own albums," Colbert explained. "You want to be the voice of a generation? Get in line. It goes me, Obama Girl, the freecreditreport.com guys - then it's a tie between you and Crocs."

Hilarious. But after a few whirls, it's grown on me. I'll say this, if it wasn't Kanye making this album, no one would be listening to it. It's like he gets a creative pass. But songs like "Paranoid," "Robocop," (yes Annabeth, I attribute this song to you) and "Street Lights" are amazing.

The album has a lot of low-points in my opinion. It's not his best work, but it is art nonetheless, which Kanye said was his intention.

Pitchfork has a good review on it. What was the point of this post? I dunno. Listen to the album and judge it for yourself, I'm too lazy to write anything else.

Scab

My old roommate Drew (or Dru Down, as I called him) and I used to watch the Celts games on TV when we were living in MA. They were on all the time of course (big ups to NESN, I miss the Sox games). Back then (all of three years ago) they were terrible and the games were pretty tough to watch, but I liked Rondo so I dealt with it (this is when they had SeaBass, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, and a few other guys who I don't care to look up right now). We used to laugh at Brian Scalabrine and what a horrible player he was/is. We even decided to start calling him "Scab," and not as a term of endearment. He just isn't good. And since the Big Three entered the scene, he gets nearly zero tick (which is what he deserves). Unfortunately he takes up a roster spot, and he apparently has a FIVE YEAR, FIFTEEN MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT. Ughhh....and here I am, in law school.

But now Scab has a theme song, and it's truly awesome.

Tis the Season....

Candy Canes Can Kill You....

...if they're giant lawn decorations.

When a drunken neighbor came over and threatened his Thanksgiving guests with a kitchen knife, one Del Paso Heights man allegedly took matters - and a plastic candy cane - into his own hands.

In what police said was self-defense, the man used the two-foot plastic lawn decoration to beat 49-year-old Donald Kercell until police could take Kercell into custody, said Sacramento Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong.

This screams awesomely awesome.

Thanks for the link sis!

Ahhh, Law School Musical

I don't know if I ever posted this thing on here (and as per usual, I'm too lazy to look), but here it is: Law School Musical.

For my colleagues (I hate that word) I know you can relate. For you non-law school folks, it shows a view through the looking glass.

More Reasons I Hate Lebron

I had a post worked up a few months ago, voicing my disdain for Lebron James
But today, I found the true epitome of my distaste. Lebron James. Yes, "King James." First of all, I recognize the guy is talented. But the guy is also disgustingly arrogant both on an off the court. He was crowned the "king" before he had even played a game. Again, I realize he is good, and is virtually unstoppable when he drives the lane.

There was the very unsavory moment when he whispered into Gilbert Arenas' ear while Gil was at the free throw line in the playoffs two years ago. I can't find the youtube footage of it, but I recall the post-game interview where Lebron said something to the effect of, "I just told him, if me missed these free throws the game was over." Gee thanks Lebron. You try and play it off like it's nothing but stating the obvious. But going up to someone while they are on the free throw line and whispering in there ear is everything but common. It's just being a bad sport.

Off the court, he's kind of a jerk. Most recently, he was caught speeding. 101 mph in a 65 mph zone. Way to go Lebron.

I avoided posting it, primarily because I was too lazy to finish writing it.

Then this came up. Lebron mania. Fantastic. I hate Lebron. 1) he talks about himself in the third person. 2) he's just not a good person.

Oh yeah, Nike gave out free hot dogs, when the Knicks hosted Cleveland. Throughout New York, people were acting like the messiah had arrived. CALM DOWN. Yankee New York fans are the worst fans on earth. Why? Because they were more excited about Lebron than their own team (granted their own team sucks, but that's no excuse to abandon ship. Trust me, I'm a Sacramento Kings fan). Then, they cheered for him harder than their own team (what do you expect from fairweather fans). Relax people, he's not even a free agent for the rest of this season and the next season.

Then there was the time when he basically said it was lame that fans cared about getting a free chalupa taco. He's just the "anointed" one who acts holier than thou.

Then there's the time he wore a Yankees hat, despite having been born and raised in Ohio.

He's just an all around d-bag.

Most recently, Lebron has basically said that he's not sure where he's going in 2010 and more or less hinted he's willing to leave Cleveland. While I can see the marketing ploy, it's a little early, and between every major media outlet salivating at his every step, and ESPN nearly having a heart attack when Lebron throws down the same right-handed tomahawk dunk and calling it a "top play" I'm sure the hype will still be there two years from now. Well leave it up to Charles Barkley to tell it like he should.

"If I was LeBron James, I would shut the hell up," the Hall of Famer said on [Dan] Patrick's show. "I'm a big LeBron fan. He's a stud. You gotta give him his props. I'm getting so annoyed he's talking about what he's going to do in two years. I think it's disrespectful to the game. I think it's disrespectful to the Cavaliers."
YES! Thank you. This is why I respect Barkley. Cause he tells it like it is and doesn't play into the whole idea of jocking Lebron to the end of the earth.

Well, Lebron, possessing above-average intelligence fired back recently, saying

"He's stupid. That's all I've got to say about that,"
Man, Lebron is so awesome. Even his retaliatory remarks are amazing. I just witnessed amazing right before my eyes. Good one Lebron. You just managed to make yourself sound less intelligent than Charles Barkley, who despite being intelligent, usually sounds like a moron (he's not, he just lack articulation sometimes). In fact, I've heard better come backs from someone, oh I dunno, maybe in the THIRD GRADE. Someone please punch Lebron in his nuts so he can't reproduce. Thanks.

full story on Lebron vs. Barkley
