This Has To End

I'm not one of those insane animal people. I like animals, but I do not value them over human life. However, some things cannot go on like this. At the historic Kentucky Derby today, the horse that was the runner up broke its two front legs and had to be euthanized ON THE TRACK. This is terrible. This is the second year in the row a horse has died in a large horse racing event. I don't care about these bourgeoisie people and their traditions in horse racing. I don't care about the thousands of people placing money on these races. This is completely inhumane and it needs to end.

Traditions should be trumped, particularly when we can now race MOTORIZED vehicles. You know what else was tradition? Racism....but yeah, clearly that had to go. Now, I don't want to lower racism and civil rights to horse racing, but the argument in favor of tradition is a half-whit one at best. End horse racing. This is terrible.

Cocaine All Around

Iron Man


So Iron Man is being toted as one of the highest rated super hero movies ever. I admit, I'm intrigued by it. And I thought Iron Man was cool (although War Machine was much, much cooler).

But I ask this....with more success from this movie, does that mean more cocaine for Robert Downey Jr.? The house doesn't win this one....

I Hate Accidents

So, leaving school to run to the bank and get lunch, Julio, Zach, and I get drilled by some guy trying to make a left turn. A left turn across two lanes. I will eventually draw a diagram of this madness.

Anyway, everyone is okay. Car is now in the shop. 5 hours of my life are gone, and I will be likely sleeping on a couch while I have no car.

Makes you rethink things some. Suddenly I'm happy that everyone is more or less alright. It's just a car. As angry as I get when I'm driving, I never get pissed off in an accident. It's life, it's just a car. It's just a bit of inconvenience. Suddenly, finals are just another day. Well not really.

Funny thing is, I told my friend this morning that I feel like an accident is coming.

These Stories Never Get Enough Play

Brian Barton


These kinds of stories never get enough run in major news outlets.

Barton plays for the Cardinals, originally from Los Angeles, he attended Loyola Marymount in Louisiana on an academic scholarship. Later, he transfered to the University of Miami. Despite being a good player, he did not get drafted because teams were worried he would go work for Boeing or NASA because he majored in Aerospace Engineering.

Then he got signed by the Indians, and despite putting up good numbers, they didn't protect him in the draft and he went to the Cardinals instead.

The story also covers Barton's travels throughout the world and his desires outside of baseball.

Long story short is, do teams want to pick guys that aren't intelligent because they have no future elsewhere? We complain that professional athletes are idiots. We chastise them when they make mistakes, yet teams do not want to draft the guy that is smart, did well in school, but was also athletic. Barton has a great head on him. Baseball is something that he's good at, but it is not the be all, end all of him. These are (1) the stories that NEED coverage. They show that people can be both smart and athletic. And (2) the sports industry needs to get its head on straight. It's moronic that these are the types of players that have a hard time making it, whereas the guy who blows off school, has athletic talent, but a bad head on his shoulder are getting reamed for doing something dumb. Of course it's going to happen. But don't stand there and scratch your head when it does.

I Am Calling this Now

S.I. Claims D'Antoni is on the verge of being fired.
D'Antoni is going to Coach Toronto and Sam Mitchell is out.

1) Toronto has quick guards (Ford, and Calderon, or as Dimemag calls them, Forderon).
2) Speaking of Calderon, he's going to get signed back and have a pretty decent contract.
3) Bosh is quick for a 4, will run the break, and will have a better next year.
4) Kapono, if utilized properly, will space the floor, helping to spread the D.
5) Brian Colangelo was the former Suns GM before he jumped ship to TO.
6) They've got a bunch of International players (Calderon, Andrea Bargniani, Jorge Garbosa, and Carlos Delfino) and D'Antoni is familiar with that style of play from playing and coaching in Europe. Best believe he will know how to utilize the talent and get the best out of that team.

Think about how much hype will follow him there. Toronto easily becomes a top 5 team in the East if D'Antoni does the same with what he did with the Suns.

D'Antoni (as much as I don't really like him) will get the job in TO. The only stipulation? If (1) Sam Mitchell doesn't get fired [that's a big IF, if you ask me], or (2) D'Antoni wants to take a year off. But he'd be dumb to not take over that team.

Since Steve (Defenseless) Nash isn't there, that's definitely a team I don't have a problem cheering for.

Time will tell.

Also in the coaching market this summer: Avery Johnson. Sorry dude, you ('re team) failed in the finals, and exited in the first round two years in a row. Although the first came as a shocker, the second wasn't much of a surprise. You were the victim of what will eventually be remembered as the worst trade in Dallas history. Goodbye future (Devin Harris), hello borderline lottery (with Kidd). It's not that Kidd isn't a future hall of fame PG, or can't still make an impact, it's the Dallas doesn't have the dominant wings that NJ had. RJ and Vinsanity make those cuts and get to the rack, properly utilizing Kidd's talent.

I recently discussed this with my friend. I thought the trade was a good move at first. But the problem is that Kidd is clearly not as quick as he used to be. His J is virtually done...and he can't be expected to go up against those quick PG's in the West that are 10 years younger than he is (Deron Williams, Paul, Parker). He might be able to post them up, but those guys have a devastating first step. So in the end, Dallas fell because they rely far too much on their jump shooting and not on a low-post game, or slashing on the baselines to the rack. That and New Orleans has, without a doubt, a future HOF point guard in Paul.

Imodium, in their never-ending wisdom, set up a site that lets you find bathrooms in your area.

A little over a month ago, Alasdair and I had this great idea to start Wheretotakeacrap.com. Unfortunately, and primarily because of laziness, the site just never got off of the ground. We did, however, have some delusions of grandeur. Ratings of bathrooms, the ability to come on the site and let us know what bathrooms to use and which to not. It would have gone national, I'm sure of it. But alas, corporate wisdom has trumped average theories.

Peyton the Jackass

I kind of thought that the commercial Peyton wasn't the REAL Peyton....but there was proof. I still like the dude. He's an intelligent QB who calls the plays. But he's definitely a jerk. Ah well...

Diss Song

With the growing beef between Deshawn Stevenson and Lebron, Jay-Z interjected and made a diss song about Deshawn. Pretty lame. Get off the nuts of Lebron Jay-Z, let Lebron handle Lebron's business.

Doesn't this kind of remind you when Shaq tried to diss Skillz? Pretty retarded.

Car Jumping

Can we all agree that Kobe didn't really jump a car that was driving full speed at him? Please? Seriously, anyone who thought he actually jumped over a car that was driving at him, please, shoot yourself. In the head. And try not to miss, I don't want my taxes going to keeping you alive. Kobe did not jump over a car because: 1) he would not risk his own life with a car (albeit an expensive car) driving full speed at him, and 2) Nike, the Lakers, the NBA, and anyone else he has an endorsement would see that, and absolutely ream him. Please also notice that it was in promotion of a Nike shoe, furthering the idea that they would not endanger his life. Not saying that he couldn't jump over a car, but that he didn't jump over the car.
