I can't explain a nearly two-month hiatus. But I can show you this video and ask you (whoever you may be) to forgive me.

I'm Basically Non Existent
no inclination to write stuff on here.
The texas bar will do that to you.
Cheers all. I'll return when life settles more. Most likely, in a month.

LCD Soundsystem - Home
I'm a fan, but not a crazed fan. That being said, I read this today and got really bummed out. Apparently James Murphy doesn't plan on doing another album. ughhh.

This Blog is the Symbol of Neglect
Somehow I've allowed this blog to spiral out of control. I stopped caring about being "insightful" (or attempting to appear insightful). I replaced creative writing with posting music videos. I started two other blogs -- one which never took off ("I had such [high] hopes for us" -- Jimmy McNulty) and the other under a pen name, which has not been disclosed to the general public, nor will it be disclosed on here.
Is this blog dead? No. But it's certainly on its last leg. Plus I'm studying for the bar. And trying to pretend like I have a bit of a social life. I think we're amidst an on-going hiatus. But then again, I say that and then I'll post 5 different things in the next week. Just you watch. I'm a maverick like that . . . (I'm embarrassed as I write that). And who are you to complain? I gave you that amazing Dr. Dog video. I'm going to go listen to that now.

Dan Lancelot is My Hero
Do you have a Dell?
Does it have the Dell Media Direct Button?
Have you ever had the error NTLDR is missing?
It really sucks, particularly because your computer becomes a brick and won't start. Then you think you have to wipe everything out and start over again. Which is what I did a few weeks ago. At 2AM when it happened.
Turned out there's an easier solution that it appears only one dude writes about. Every other jackass website says you have to put the Windows disc back in and try and correct things. Not the case if you pressed the Dell Media Direct Button.

When you press this little button, the system rewrites the MBR on the primary disk, and causes the system to boot to a different partition (one which theoretically should contain the Media Direct application). If that partition does not exist, you get an apparently bricked laptop. The good news is, that if you press the button again, then the changes to the MBR get reverted - may need a subsequent reboot - and you should be able to get back into windowsYup, that's all you have to do. I know, because I pressed the stupid button again last night and just got absolutely angry with myself. But thankfully I found this guy's page and all was not lost. Tipping my hat to you right now, sir.

I Love Big Papi
Since I'm poor, I'll likely wait till he's released at some point during the season before I buy his jersey - it will then be discounted. But in the meantime, I still love this commercial. It's been out since I was in undergrad, meaning it's been around at least since 2007. Still makes me chuckle - yes, chuckle.

Trya Pranks
Oh, I get it. It's a play on words. Hilarious Tyra.
This is the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time. It's soaking in second-hand embarrassment.
The premise is that Tyra was supposedly bitten by a dog (if I was a dog, I'd maul her for wearing that clown costume she has on). So she decides to prank the audience. Sneaky, sneaky Tyra. She stops her opening monologue and turns around to drink a bottle of water. Then sits down, and pretends to foam at the mouth and barks at the audience. Yes, it's as ridiculous and bad as it sounds, and all features Tyra's awful acting to boot.

Three Things I Know
Broken Social Scene - "Forgiveness Rock Record"

LCD Soundsystem - "This Is Happening"
Unfortunately only two are pictured. The new Broken Social Scene, the new LCD Soundsystem (!!!) and the new Ratatat (not pictured) LPs all came across my desk today. I think studying just got slightly better.

Tim Welch joined the Hofstra University March 31 as the new men's basketball head coach. Three days ago he was cited for a DUI somewhere in Levittown, Long Island. Today, he resigned.
So before even coaching a game, or really doing anything meaningful, he's gone. Tip o' the hat. Mr. Welch. Back to ESPN ya' go.

Phoenix and Two Door Cinema Club
Two Door Cinema Club was awesome. I highly recommend checking them out. Great recommendation by LSBFFL (Elizabeth). Phoenix was also spectacular. I've been wanting to see them since last summer, but my horrendous schedule was entirely too prohibitive. Definitely glad I made time to go out and have a normal life.

Are We in the Age of Unoriginality?
Something I wrote a long time ago but never posted:
Generally, I try my best to be thoughtful and articulate. More often than not I fall short of these lofty goals. What has this blog been? A failed experiment? An attempt to embrace and employ the talents of those I follow? I'd venture to say it's been a creative outlet and a platform for me to say whatever I've want, almost indifferent to whether or not people actually read this thing (and at times, I'm afraid to promote it because....it's just not that good). To me, this blog is just a chance to vent or write a journal of sorts when I feel like it. It's filled with whatever is relevant to me - music, sports, news, and complaints.
But to many, blogs are a business. Sites like deadspin, drudge report, above the law, and countless others are legitimate sources of content that sell ad space. This all begs the question though: are we in the age of unoriginality?
I post links and copy quotes from other stories. But recently, Ian shapira of the Washington Post wrote a great article on blogs and how they're killing journalism. I am an adamant supporter of blogs. I think they have their purpose and they need to be embraced. Shapiras article, however, was directed at gawker, a web site that compiles major news stories and adds whitty comments (that's the profile in a nutshell). At first, shapira thoght it was cool that he was blessed with gawker coverage, but his editor later pointed out that he should be outraged. Hours of work were poured into this story, only to have it cut up and pasted by a blogger who gave little attribution to the Post and completed the "article" in an hour or so.
There is a fine line. Perhaps gawker crossed it. You see, I'm conflicted. What will we do when the newspapers are gone. Shapira points out that the Post has done four buyouts since 2003. And we are talking about one of the largest newspapers in the world. Imagine those in the smaller markets. And all the while gawker is profiting by reprinting headlines and selling ad space. As newspaper revenues fall, so too will the journalists. And then what? Who does the leg-work, who generates the stories, who does the research and writes the articles? If the newspapers collapse, where do the gawkers go?

Shaking My Head (SMH)
Oh KFC, you tried to reinvent yourself with the whole "Taste the Grilled Side" or whatever it was. Then you came out with this:
Two fried chicken fillets. Bacon. Two types of cheese. Amazing...ly unhealthy. 540 Calories. 32 grams of fat. 1380 mg of sodium. I'm not much of a label reader, but come on KFC. What gives? Oh, wait, have no fear. They've got the grilled version. Only 460 calories, 23 grams of fat and somehow it has 1430 mg of sodium.
Way to go KFC. You almost reinvented yourself. Almost.

Alias - Dying to Stay
This song reminds me of "better" days. My buddy JJ used to live in San Francisco and was always down to let me crash on his couch and catch shows. He put me on to Alias (and of course the Anticon conglomerate). I still love their music from the early 2000s - they had the best drums.

I'm Just Tired
And the protagonist realizes how stupid his idealistic attitude is is. And his realization is aptly attributed: blaming movies, greeting cards, and pop songs for making him a hopeless romantic; ultimately he feels lied to. Parts of the movie seem so analogous to life, although I won't go in to much detail.
"I'm just tired" is the excuse she utters before she's about to break up with him. It's like the saying is two-fold. Not only because she probably uses that as an excuse (which I can relate to), but also because she was tired. Tired of suffering through their relationship.
"You can't ascribe cosmic significance to a simple earthly event. Coincidence. That's all anything ever is. Nothing more than coincidence." The counter-point to those who believe in fate. At least with the little things.
By the way, the soundtrack was pretty awesome.

The Panda Award Goes To . . .
The Song, The Cinematography, The Skateboarding
I've always kept up with skateboarding. There's a part of it that has remained in my heart. Some of the best times in my life were spent skating. But who am I kidding, that was forever-and-a-day ago. Still, lately I've been thinking about getting a board again just to cruise around and get out of the house.
Huf put out this little diddy to Tony Bennett's "Left My Heart in San Francisco." It definitely fuels that fire.

This Bill is a Big Deal
Language is a little crude, but it's funny.
Still haven't read the language of the Health Care Bill, and thus I'm not sure of what the overall implications are (let's face it, you have to accept the media's interpretation as being at least somewhat biased and somewhat unreliable).

A Moment Too Late
Today is the week of being behind (not that my whole life hasn't been spent being a little late on trends, appointments, etc.). But it seems to be particularly highlighted today.
Today was the day I read a recent Texas Supreme Court case. Of course yesterday was the day I was questioned (in an interview no less) about recent, interesting Texas Supreme Court decisions. Granted, I stumbled through a semi-reasoned answer, but today's reading would have helped yesterday's questioning.
Today is the day I read Texas case law relating to the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA). Of course Tuesday was the day I judged a moot court tournament dealing with the FAA and Texas law.
Murphy's Law in full effect in my life.

NOLA is a magical place. Granted, I've only been there twice, but I have very vivid and fond memories. There is a charm and a tremendous sense of pride throughout the city that is unparalleled by anywhere else I've been. And the food is quite amazing.

REKEROY
Tyreke for Rookie of the Year (REKEROY)
Somewhere in this video, I make an appearance, popping a Kings jersey like a lunatic. 15 Seconds of fame. Except it aired on national TV during NBA All-Star Weekend's HORSE competition, the February King's highlight footage, and now this. So it's more like 45 seconds of fame.

Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and prasie your Father in Heaven. [NIV]
A reminder to be more Christ-like; a reminder that I've been called to follow Him. It's hard to walk the path of a believer at times. In fact, I think I'm a pretty poor representation of what a Christian should be. I allow myself to put other things first (law school anyone?). But in the times I have to reflect, I remember that I've been called for a higher purpose. It's just a matter of remembering that in all things that I do.

The Wire
Season 1 is back On Demand for HBO. Yeah, I own the box set. Yeah, I've watched the entire series about 4 times. Yeah, I read blogs about the show looking for insight to this day. The Wire is something of an anomaly. Layers and layers of an intricate plot, coupled with insight into Baltimore - one of the cornerstone cities of the U.S.
I'll never get tired of this show.

Stockton is Moving Up; Now With Video
Last year, Stockton was the most miserable city in America according to Forbes. Well, that statement is true no longer. Now Stockton is only the second most miserable city in America. Wooohooo. And the city's government is working hard to give it a makeover. Peep the video.
Look, I love Stockton. It's my home, and it always will be deep down. It's where the people I care about the most are, it's where my youth was spent, it's a place I will always fondly look back upon. Absent extenuating circumstances, I'm never going back, but that's not the point. I really never thought it was that bad, but then again when I was home my dad's car was broken into while in the driveway and no one was really in shock (particularly because my car had once been broken into 3 times (once in the driveway), and his car had previously been broken into in the driveway and in front of the house.
So yeah, Stockton kind of is a dump, but it's my dump. And sometimes, I miss it terribly.

A Wag of the Finger
I knew this day would come. A day when I'd have to criticize a player that I truly enjoy and root for.
For shame Mr. Manning. Rather than congratulating the other team, Peyton elected to go the route of Lebron, Tom Brady, or Bill Belichick and walk off the field rather than congratulating the Saints on their first Super Bowl victory. I will not apologize for that behavior. I chastised Lebron and I chastized Brady and Belichick for such behavior. You look like a poor sport. Respect the game and go congratulate the other side. They played a better game. All around. Period.
Ughhhh it pains me to write this.

Six TONS of Cocaine
Yes, TONS. This was on the Travel Channel. I haven't watched too much of Anthony Bourdaine, but his show is interesting at times. I came across this on another blog and I was blown away (yuck yuck). The guy in the vid says that amount of drugs is valued at $350 million. Crazy.

I Love Food
I watched all 101 places and I was pretty excited. I hope to visit at least three of the places on the list in the next few months (thank you Moot Court). This would include Durgin Park in Boston (#10) a place in Cincinnati that serves Chili on Spaghetti and some 24-hour fried chicken / Southern food place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Hey, I didn't get fat by not eating.
Phoenix Won a Grammy
Okay, so I wasn't exactly "aware" that the Grammy's were on last night. Until I got text messages and saw facebook posts about it. I could really care less about the spectacle that is the Grammys. I don't even know who hosted.
But nevertheless, I tuned back into the news today and apparently Phoenix won a Grammy for "Best Alternative Music Album." Awesome! They were hands down my favorite band of 2009.
Also, to those who were questioning who they were (my roommates), then proceeding to make fun of me cause they were so underground and I was being a music snob, I am validated. Underground bands don't win Grammys. Also, their music was in a Cadillac Commercial and on Entourage. Just because you hadn't heard them, doesn't mean they're underground.

Things I'm Excited About
Yeah, the Kings are who we thought they were. They suck. But there's going to be a bright future down the road. This team will get better and they will be competitive the entire season and they will not suck on the road.
With the All-Star game fast approaching, I thought I should make sure I represent my team to the fullest while in Dallas. Of course with the team being what it is who knows what happens with the personnel. But I am certain Tyreke is the brightest spot and will remain, so I got a #13, Tyreke Evans custom black jersey. I am beyond stoked.
