Basketball > Bowling

Well, obviously, right? If you've hung out with me for a prolonged period of time, you know I love bowling. Not competitively. But there's nothing like having beers and throwing the ball at a bunch of pins. Some of my fondest memories from home were bowling with Sly, Moose, and Chad on our old team. Yeah, it was basically Chad and Sly killing it, while Moose and I were the epitome of inconsistency. But it was a blast.

However, if you read this blog, you know my true love is basketball. I read the blogs daily (even in the offseason). I keep up with news, stats, etc. basically daily. And I love to play pickup games in Houston when given the chance (no, I'm not very good, but it doesn't stop me).

There were rumors floating on the campaign trail that if Obama was elected, he was putting in an indoor basketball court. He wasn't lying.

But not everyone shares my excitement.

The bowling lobby is concerned that talk of removing the White House lane -- which was built under the north driveway -- will have a negative impact on their sport. In an effort to change the president's mind, top bowling associations have offered to refurbish the lane with a state-of-the-art scoring system, high-tech bowling balls designed to grip the lane and a digital surround-sound system.

However, Obama's cabinet is littered with individuals who have ties to basketball (mostly at the collegiate level or lower). And Obama loves playing games, particularly before major events.

Mr. Obama typically spends some time on the basketball court ahead of big events, including elections. He is expected to play a game of three-on-three with his Hyde Park friends before delivering his Inaugural Address Jan. 20.

So I say, don't listen to the lobbyists sir, put in the court. Cause basketball reigns supreme.

RIP to One of the Greats

Mike Kahn passed away this week.

Kahn was one of the main contributors on foxsports. I truly enjoyed his writings on the NBA. I have always chosen foxsports over espn.com. Why? Because ESPN often requires you to have the "insider" pass. I'm sorry, but in this day and age, I'm not paying extra money to read information that a million other web sites are likely covering (and often covering better). Alas, I digress.

Kahn's writings will be thoroughly missed as will his presence in the sports community.

Mike Kahn was my professional brother. We spent more quality time together than many family members. We were soulmates in a great profession. Readers will miss his insight and opinion. I miss one of my closest friends.

Thanks for being a fiercely loyal, tireless boss, and thanks for being cool about it when our roles were reversed and you wound up working for me. And thanks for bringing that same passion and enthusiasm to your writing on the NBA for FOXSports.com.

Now I'll thank you to get back to work. Pick a topic — Kobe and the Lakers, LeBron's future, how the Knicks are still up the creek — and start writing. Don't make me come after you. Not yet, anyway.

Mike's love of the game always showed through his writing. Your contributions will be sorely missed. It's amazing to think how much journalists can impact us. For now, rest in peace.

Feeling Thankful

Here I am, on vacation, and I feel overwhelmingly thankful that I escaped the confines of this city I used to call home. I love seeing my family. I love seeing my friends, but the problem? A guy is sitting outside of this coffee shop bumping this



just like it's going out of style. Please note, it's not. It's not in danger of going out of style. Why? Cause it's been about 15 years since it was in style.

My parents, my sister, Lobo (my dog), Old friends, every Kings game televised (although they'll be difficult to watch in their current state), sleep.

2 Years of Law School in Parking

I attempt to avoid parking tickets like the plague. Don't need a boot, don't need to take away money that I don't have. But alas, others aren't like me (nor do I expect them to be). The haste of the world we live in often chooses urgency over practicality.

But then there are those who somehow manage to outdo the average individual.

Alexander Kamish managed to rack up approximately $81,000 in parking tickets (count the zeros). Yes, in law school money, that's two years (where I'm from. But try schools like New York Law, or Santa Clara, where a year costs about $45,000 just in tuition - not even counting cost of living, which basically will double that number). Mr. Kamish is the #1 offender in the NYC. #2? He's way off, owing only $66,000 in tickets.

How did Kamish do it? 415 parking tickets in 4 years. Yes, nearly 104 parking tickets per year. I would crap my pants and cry if that happened to me.

Naturall, Mr. Kamish denies any wrongdoing.

"Basically, someone registered [the offending] vehicles under my name," Khamish said.

"I knew about this a couple years ago, but I didn't know it [involved an] $80,000 [debt].

"Someone did register vehicles under my name before I found out, but I was going back and forth with the DMV, and from the last I heard, I thought everything was OK."

That's the equivalent of saying "my dog ate my homework." Wait, scratch that. It's like saying, "I turned in my homework, but I think someone else stole it. I told the principal, and last I heard, I got an 'A' on the assignment."

Brilliant.
