An Evening Being Me

Before this I ran for a bit. Showered and ordered some running shoes. Pretty stoked. Nike sportband also on the way. Gotta get serious.

Then Jim called and picked me up some pei wei on his way home. Gotta indulge (although it was subpar tonight - the pud Thai has been that way lately)

Haven't been drinking much, but I felt like a cocktail.

And some television.

Maybe some pool later?

But in the end I'll probably head downstairs, crawl into bed and read myself to sleep.

Being Me: What the Hell I Ate for Lunch

It's a crab cake. And it sounded (and looked) better than it turned out to be. For sides: peas and carrots (bleh) and veggie rice casserol.

First off, I'm not a huge fan of peas. But it was that or brussels sprouts. My mom will attest to the fact that I hate peas. But only second to: Lima beans. Which just so happen to be in the veggie rice casserol. It feels like the older i get, the more i just grin and bear eating things i dont even like.

Also pictured: half a dinner roll and hot sauce inlieu of tartar sauce.

Friday hasn't sucked this much in a while.

There Will Be Typos

As the nifty (read: obnoxious) line indicates below, I may be posting from my phone. Being that it has a "virtual keyboard" and no spell check and coupled with the fact that I'm too lazy to proof what I read, there will be typos. Deal with it.

Life Being Me (in photos)

1/4 of my office desk. Note the large oil and gas books. Can you guess wha type of place I work for?

Note the cool phone on the middle section of my desk.

My computer area. Where the magic happens. If by "magic" I mean "stuff" and by "stuff" I mean "work and Internet browsing"

The last 1/4 of my desk. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Finally, the door out of my office. And a filing cabinet and white board I'll never use.

There Was No Two Hour Lunch Today

Thus work is drrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaging right along. I'm looking forward to running today. I picked up some new nikes on the cheap and some shorts too. Although I refuse to wear "running shorts" and instead opt for basketball shorts. One pair looks kind of like it has pinstripes. And we all know how awesome pinstripes are. Second only to plaid in the pantheon of patterns.

Anyway, being a rehabilitating ex-smoker means I have the lung capacity of a 90 year old. So working on building up my stamina. And also looking for the Nike+ sportband. Mainly cause gadgets are awesome. And I'm Asian.

Need to do 2 miles running / walking and 2 walking. Kind of ambitious...at least for me. After that I'll have some dinner and read till I fall asleep. Life in the burbs. Pure boredom...

The Two Hour Lunch

Today marked the return of one of my favorite things: the two hour
lunch. It's just like it sounds, two hours of sitting at lunch.

Now, I used to hate the long lunches. Why? Killled my productivity.
But lately, I've been unmotivated. Kind of uninspired (working in the
burbs is killing my vibe). So lunch with the attorneys took us to the
Woodlands Resort. Two waters, a cup of delicious chicken poblano soup,
a rib eye salad and a pecan pie slice later, two hours had passed.
Returning to work, I felt that....good feeling. Like part of the work
day had gone by and I wasn't staring at the computer screen searching
for a needle in a haystack.

If it is for only one day, I welcome you back Two Hour Lunch. I didn't
know what I had until you were gone.

As an aside I was subjected to two hours of right-wing, suburban
political banter about how awful sotamayor is going to be and a
sarcastic comment about her being a wise Latina. Also a comment about
American made products and how we need to bring them back. Lest we
forget most American made products are quite shoddy, just like their
foreign counterparts. Oh you yuppies. If it hadn't been for the two
hour lunch I might actually be upset

I Hate the Burbs

Right now I'm standing in line waiting to buy a book. And there's a
woman jabbering on about how great Sarah palin is. I want to vomit on
my own shoes. And her's (the woman, not palin's....wait, all three
will do).

Then there was the comment in the cafeteria today made by a guy
commending a Midwestern senator who commented on hard work during the
sotameyer confirmation hearings. Not sure exactly what that meant but
it had that politically charged sound to it. You know, the anti
affirmative action sound. The "he got handed a job cause of his race"
sound...

I can't wait to get out of the burbs and back to the downtown life.
Call me bougeoise or whatever, but I hate it out here.

Rec Reading

A series of text messages went out from my phone on Monday.

"Going to buy a book. Any suggestions? This may be the only non law related book I read for a while."

and

"Going to buy a book to read. Any suggestions? You're usually money on this stuff"

A number of recommendations were sent back. Outliers: The Story of Success; The Appeal; Renegade: The Making of a US President; The Power Broker; and Match King. But the most interesting was Lone Survivor. And so out I walked with this book.

Three sittings later, it was finished (As of 4:30 AM today. The fact that I'm on the friday off of my 9/80 made that possible. Also, considering how un-into reading I am, it's amazing that I even: (1) decided to read a book; (2) actually finished the thing; and (3) in 3 days - it was 400-something pages). Was it a good read? Yes. Did I tear up at some points? Yes. Was it a bit over-the-top in terms of patriotism? Yes. But then again, I understand why. And I understand precisely where he's coming from. Some parts are a bit rushed and confusing at times. Parts I would have liked to see expanded upon and more detailed. But all in all, it was a good book. And I have all the respect in the world for Marcus Luttrell.

Down for a While

With the recent move (and AT&T being the awful service providers they are) we are into the second week without Internet or cable tv. Bear with me. Not that there's a lot of content in the wings...just that there may be a sporadic post here or there once things are settled at the new place.
