So Why the Long Bout of Silence?

Re-transitioning to life back in Houston.

Trying to burn off the weight and having to wake up quite early to do it. Gym at 7AM sucks. But I bought an ipod which should be here tomorrow. I will be thrilled if it comes in. I need music, especially at the gym. Especially that early.

I'm dealing with a stressy eye-twitch. My left eye used to twitch a lot, presumably from stress. But oddly enough, it never acted up (to the best of my Alzheimer-esque memory) during law school. Strange it does now. Maybe I just need to reaclimate to stress. Although I don't even have anything to stress about.

Least I'm not the President. I'd be aging faster than I already am (I've got a lot of gray hairs going on the sides of my head). How much faster. Apparently twice as fast.
"It doesn't matter if they're Democrats or Republicans, it doesn't matter if they've been athletes or not beforehand, it doesn't matter if they were smokers or not," said Roizen, chief wellness officer at the Cleveland Clinic. "For eight years in office, they age 16 years."
I guess when you actually look at the photos, you can see how all the presidents age so much from when they entered office. Like ridiculously.
And while younger people can easily reset their hormonal response system once acute stress subsides, older adults don't respond with the same suppleness. In such circumstances, the human body becomes like an engine that is constantly revving.

"It's a good thing that older people can have stress responses, but it's a bad thing that your stress responses stay active for a longer period of time," Minaker said. "It's sort of burning you up."

I guess I do get angrier for longer. Eh, being old sucks.

In other news, as Bush's presidency nears an end, we can look back at some of his greatest contributions to the English language. And I don't think any of that had to do with "stress" or the "graying of the president."

Here's a tidbit. On technology
"Information is moving. You know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it's also moving through the blogosphere and through the Internets."
Washington DC, 2 May, 2007
Read the rest here.

And finally, this is a bit old, but don't you think this story is kind of strange.
John Travolta's lawyers -- who are close family friends -- reveal to Usmagazine.com that Jett may have died in his father's arms Friday. "Yesterday was the worst day of [John's] life," Travolta's lawyer and confidant, Michael McDermott, and Michael Ossi, the family's attorney, tell Us in a phone interview (during which they asked all quotes to be jointly attributed).
I can only imagine how hard losing a family member is. That must be terrible. But what I find strange? That the attorney, who was there, who issued a statement basically on behalf of Travolta, thinks that Jett may have died it John Travolta's arms. Shouldn't he know the answer to that? I'm just saying. He is the attorney.

This Should Be Good

Will Ferrell is going to take his Bush impression to Broadway.
The "Saturday Night Live" veteran will star in "You're Welcome America: A Final Night With George W. Bush" at New York's Cort Theater, with previews in line for Inauguration Day.

The show will take a chronological look at Bush's life -- from his college days and time as the governor of Texas to the 2000 race for president and his two terms in office.

The show will premiere on February 5 and run through March 15. HBO has also picked up the show, to air live on an undetermined date.

It should be a good show. I've always liked Ferrell's Bush impressions.

Ya' Think?!

In an interview, Bush cited some of his regrets throughout his Presidency.

``I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said,'' Bush said. He cited comments he made after the Sept. 11 attacks, when he said of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden: ``I want justice. There's an old poster out West that said, 'Wanted, dead or alive.'''

He also said he regretted telling Iraqi insurgents in 2003: ``There are some who feel like that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring 'em on.''

He went on to cite a few other regrets, but there are some glaring omissions. So I thought I'd help out.

1) the war in Iraq. - Umm.....are you ready to admit we shouldn't have gone there? Maybe, I dunno, you wanted bin Laden, so you could have gone to....uhhh what's that place called? Afghanistan!!!

2) the inability to master the English language and understand that the meaning of a sentence is based on the placement of words

Here are a few:
"I'm also not very analytical. You know I don't spend a lot of time thinking about myself, about why I do things."

"I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe — I believe what I believe is right."

"People say, how can I help on this war against terror? How can I fight evil? You can do so by mentoring a child; by going into a shut-in's house and say I love you."

"I try to go for longer runs, but it's tough around here at the White House on the outdoor track. It's sad that I can't run longer. It's one of the saddest things about the presidency."

Wall Street Got Drunk; Hungover

This site has a list of quotes of President Bush. It also has archives from previous years. The best of the year thus far would be a tough choice, but hilariousness tells me its:

"Throughout our history, the words of the Declaration have inspired immigrants from around the world to set sail to our shores. These immigrants have helped transform 13 small colonies into a great and growing nation of more than 300 people." --George W. Bush, Charlottesville, Va., July 4, 2008

But then again:

"There's no question about it. Wall Street got drunk -- that's one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras -- it got drunk and now it's got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments." --George W. Bush, speaking at a private fundraiser, Houston, Texas, July 18, 2008 (Watch video clip)

Since it's hard to pick a favorite, check the site out. There are a ton

Yes, This is Our President

Crappy quality? Yes. Funny? DEFINITELY. Bush singing at the Gridiron Club is not to be missed.

Although his speeches generally suck, his song is pretty freakin funny. So whoever writes this song, might want to be considered for a speech-writing position. And also, this shows that Bush isn't all bad. See Jayson, I'm not a full bore kool-aid drinker.

Thanks to my roommate James T. Barnish for some solid, non-complaining, non-sports related blog material.

Will Oliver Stone Soon Die?

http://imdb.com/title/tt1175491/

Probably not, but if he did, man there'd be some conspiracy theories out there (like "someone" in the government got angry and killed Stone off). I wonder how W. feels about this movie coming out. All things considered, Stone hasn't made a movie (to my very limited knowledge) about some controversial topic that is actually currently happening. The movie, however, is set for a 2009 release, so Bush won't be in office, and I guess it wouldn't be 'current.' But Nixon was released in 1994, and Nixon was impeached in 1974 or something. So W would be much more current.

The biggest question on my mind? Who will play Cheney. Is there a douchebag, or someone capable of portraying a douchbag of Cheny-like proportions out there? Only time will tell.

I Miss the Chappelle Show

It's been a long time since Chappelle's Show was on. Below is the Black Bush sketch, still one of my all-time, favorite sketches.

If you're in my Con law class, please refer to approximately 2:10 and the 'yellow cake' reference. Then, every time Bergin makes a 'yellow cake' joke, think about this video, look to me, and understand why I'm laughing for what appears to be no good reason.

Two Unrelated News Stories

A Rwandan Catholic Priest was sentenced to life in prison by a U.N. Tribunal for his role in the 1994 genocide. I'm a little confused as to how killing 1,500 people inside of a church is doing the work of God. But then again, I'm not Catholic, nor was I in Rwanda. In all seriousness, this guy is totally getting what he deserved.

The best part about it? He originally only had a 15-year sentence, but decided to appeal it and BOOM: extended his sentence to life in prison. Too bad the U.N. doesn't liberally throw firing squads into sentencing. This guy would be a well deserved recipient of that.

In other news, America is moving one step closer to a police state. Bush has said he will veto the House bill that requires telecommunications companies to defend themselves to judges behind closed doors for illegal wire tapping as part of Bush's unofficial Save America By Violating the Constitution and the Rest of America's Civil Liberties, campaign (I call it SABVCRACL for short). These telecom companies have been working with the federal government to undermine our rights by listening into phone calls illegally. Instead, Bush would rather back the Senate bill which, surprise, gives immunity to the companies.

I really enjoy how, in order to feel more safe, we have to remove more and more of our rights. I hope when Bush leaves office, he gets the actual Constitution and takes a big ol' crap on it. Cause, metaphorically speaking, that's what he's been doing while he's been in office. Might as well make it official right? I love tyranny. I also really like quasi-dictators under the guise of democracy. And rainbows and flowers.

Torture, Prostitution? Sure, why not...

Prosecutor + prostitution = Governor of NY
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/11/spitzer/index.html

Also, torture in America is okay.

What's that? It's not okay? Ohhhh only torturing non-Americans is okay? Guess I'll put my waterboard back in the closet.....Maybe next year. Thanks for keeping America safe by allowing us to torture people GW. I'm sure in 20 years I'll look back and think about what a great president you were.....Cause hindsight is 20/20 right? Right?
