Dan Lancelot is My Hero

Do you have a Dell?

Does it have the Dell Media Direct Button?

Have you ever had the error NTLDR is missing?

It really sucks, particularly because your computer becomes a brick and won't start. Then you think you have to wipe everything out and start over again. Which is what I did a few weeks ago. At 2AM when it happened.

Turned out there's an easier solution that it appears only one dude writes about. Every other jackass website says you have to put the Windows disc back in and try and correct things. Not the case if you pressed the Dell Media Direct Button.
When you press this little button, the system rewrites the MBR on the primary disk, and causes the system to boot to a different partition (one which theoretically should contain the Media Direct application). If that partition does not exist, you get an apparently bricked laptop. The good news is, that if you press the button again, then the changes to the MBR get reverted - may need a subsequent reboot - and you should be able to get back into windows
Yup, that's all you have to do. I know, because I pressed the stupid button again last night and just got absolutely angry with myself. But thankfully I found this guy's page and all was not lost. Tipping my hat to you right now, sir.
