I was going to write a blog on how great HBO and David Simon's 'The Wire' is, but my computer crashed after I had already written it. For lack of a better word, the post would have been 'weak' at best. So I've scrapped that blog, both out of self-loathing for my own poorly written words, as well as impossibility. I will say this, please, please, please watch the Wire. Go out, rent the 1st disc of season 1 and check it out. It's not just a cop drama. It's the drama of a city, the suffering of the urban population within the city. Simply put, it's amazing.
Now that I've gotten that out of way, on to the present matters.
I haven't really figured out what makes a blog interesting, or what would make my writing interesting enough for the viewer. Up to this point I've utilized my previous blogs as more of an open journal; a diary if you will. But 'blog' seems to be the term of the moment, and so I've just written under the guise of a blog. I suppose a blog is what you make of it.
The idea of starting this blog began after months of reading another guys blog. I don't know the guy, I just read it on occasion. And I thought it was amazing. This is by no means an attempt to copy the guy. For one, he is on a whole different level than I am. But just saw it as the next logical step in my recreational blogging. I wanted my own space to write with a user-friendly setup. Something I can call my own.
Now in our society, style is well favored over function. This is evident primarily in fashion, as well as other material items that have seemed to prevail in our culture. It's why people think an H2 or H3 is so much cooler than an economical car that is much more gas friendly. Now, by no means am I some environmentalist, but I just think that it's kind of crazy to drive a car that gets about 10 miles per gallon. It's why we go out and seek the designer brand name clothes, because the logo means everything. But realistically, the clothes are not produced with a higher quality, it just impresses your friends. It's why she wants that name brand purse. Style is typically the status quo.
I suppose I digressed a bit. I was sitting in the library last night, trial brief in front of me, but instead I was working on making an aesthetically pleasing blog. But really, a blog can look cool, but if it favors style over function, what's the point? I guess I'm writing to say that I hope I can effectively convey my message to you. I don't want it to only look nice, but I want it to mean something. And in the end, I'd rather favor function over style. Realistically, I'd like both.
So there you have it. 10 minutes of rambling and I still haven't decided if this blog will ever have a true meaning or an intended purpose. It's a vicious cycle. Stay with me reader, this is a development in progress.
